Fluvanna County Summer Camp Counselors - Parks and Recreation

Fluvanna County Parks & Recreation has opening for summer camp counselors. Camps operate from May 31, 2016 through July 29, 2016. The position is responsible for implementing the summer camp program by actively engaging with participants on a daily basis.

Schedule will vary between 20 - 39 hours/week. Salary starting at $10.75/hr. Candidates must be at least 18 years of ages with a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Prior camp counseling experience preferred. Applicant must be able to work outdoors for up to 10 hours at a time.

The County of Fluvanna, VA is seeking a full-time Youth, Teen, and Family Recreation Program Specialist.  Duties include: Leadership and program services management in accordance to the mission, purpose and policies of the County’s Parks and Recreation Department.  Responsibilities also involve directing functions of community development, programs, relationship building, developing others, project management, quality results, and retention with the focus on Values, Inclusion, Relationships and Communication; as well as other services required by Fluvanna County.

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will bring several years of progressively responsible experience in recreation program planning and implementation; a Bachelor’s degree in recreation or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate must be able to work a varied schedule, including some evenings and weekends. The position requires the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and must have a current VA driver’s license and be able to drive between off site locations. CPR and First Aid certification preferred. Driving and Criminal History Background check required.

Primary Focus: Plan and implement summer, spring and winter break day camps, Special Events and programs to include: Valentines Dance, Halloween Festival, Christmas Holiday event, Easter Egg-Stravaganza, Teen and specialty dances and activities; Specialty youth and adult classes and programs to include: hunter and boat safety, Dog Obedience, Horse classes, Pottery, Arts and Crafts, Painting, CPR/First Aid, Writers Group, Specialty classes for families, and other special events as assigned. Hire, supervise, direct and evaluate assigned staff of volunteers and instructors; Purchase and inventory of supplies and equipment relating to programs. Coordinates and assists with the design of publications, promotional and advertising materials.

BUILDING INSPECTOR - Community Development Department

The County of Fluvanna, Virginia, is accepting applications for the position of Building Inspector.

The preferred applicant will have a thorough understanding and experience in building inspection and plans examining work to enforce compliance with Virginia building and environmental codes, regulations and ordinances; researching new construction materials and methods; and providing information to and working with the public to resolve problems.

General knowledge of all types of building construction materials and methods and stages of construction when possible violations and defects may be most easily observed and corrected; general knowledge with state building and related codes laws and ordinances; general knowledge of Zoning Ordinance provisions; ability to detect poor workmanship, inferior materials, and hazards of fire and collapse; ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and blueprints accurately and to compare them with construction in process; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to contact property owners, contractors and the public and effect satisfactory working relationships; firmness and tact in enforcing ordinances and codes.

The Building Inspector performs plan checking, examines blueprints or specifications of new buildings or contemplated repairs of old buildings for conformance to zoning ordinances and building codes. Performs field inspections and re-inspections of residential, commercial and industrial facilities for compliance with building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical codes; enforcing Zoning Ordinances.

The candidate must be in possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia and have or obtain the state core certification in building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical inspections within eighteen (18) months of employment and environmental and building plan review certification within twelve (12) months of employment.

Duties include: Managing day-to-day operations of the County’s budget, performing financial, analytical, and supervisory support for assigned programs, administering and providing support for the County’s Munis financial system, and assists county staff in identifying, preparing, submitting, monitoring and managing grants for external sources. Under the direction of the Fluvanna County Director of Finance, the Management Analyst independently carries out assignments; organizes own work, sets priorities, meets critical deadlines, and follows-up on assignments.

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a closely related field.  CPA and/or extensive public accounting experience preferred. The candidate will also bring several years of progressively responsible experience in professional analytical, accounting, and administrative experience as a budget analyst, management analyst, and/or grants manager, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
