The County of Fluvanna is recruiting for the position of Deputy Registrar. 

Perform general paraprofessional work required to conduct local, State, and Federal elections in the County of Fluvanna in accordance with State and Federal election laws. The Deputy Registrar performs specialized clerical work and reports directly to the Director of Elections.  The primary duty of the Deputy Registrar is voter registration maintenance and election preparation, assisting the General Registrar in completing all duties related to the provision of local, state, and federal elections and performing other duties as assigned. This position is appointed by the Director of Elections. The work must be in accordance with Title 24.2 of the Virginia Code with a comprehensive knowledge of Federal laws, the State Board of Elections, and the Department of Elections policies and their applications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must maintain professionalism and confidentiality regarding sensitive information and office functions, while maintaining the front reception area, greeting all visitors and being the first point of contact.

  • Processes voter registration applications, prepares, updates and maintains records and files as required by the Code of Virginia.
  • Manages and curates records as the designated record technician for the Library of Virginia.
  • Inventories and maintains adequate supplies for the office.
  • Responsible for ensuring the Early Voting Precinct and Polling Places are properly supplied with the necessary equipment in order to ensure a successful election while also maintaining, in its entirety, all equipment throughout the year.
  • Assist Registrar in downloading poll book data, and building and execute data to the electronic poll books.
  • Prepares training materials for election officials.
  • Assist Registrar in the training of election officials.
  • Assist in testing and documentation of election equipment pre and post-elections.
  • Assist Registrar with verification of petitions. 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • General knowledge of and ability to research federal, state, and county election laws.
  • General knowledge of voting procedures, maintenance and protection of voter registration lists and records.
  • Knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and operating computer equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate ideas effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Excellent customer skills, adapt to multi-tasking, and strong organizational skills.
  • Experience using Excel, creating spreadsheets, creating election material, etc.
  •  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Electoral Board, associates, and the general public.
  • Must show initiative and be enthusiastic, a self-starter, and flexible; Strive to anticipate work to be done and initiate proper protocol. 
  • Will be required to work non-standard hours during election season.

ACCEPTABLE EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING

  • Must be a qualified voter in Virginia.
  • Must have a valid Virginia Driver’s License.
  • Must have dependable means of transportation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of administrative experience in an office environment, including customer service.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • This position requires exertion of up to 45 pounds of force occasionally or constantly to move objects. Work requires grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and thoroughness of work.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.

The Hiring Range: $39,936 to $45,927- Depending on the qualifications
