Fluvanna County, Virginia, is seeking a full-time Director of Community Development.  Under the general supervision of the County Administrator, the incumbent serves as a principal director overseeing the County’s Planning, Zoning, Economic Development, Code Compliance, Building Inspections, and Erosion/Sediment Control functions.  Additionally, this position serves and the Planning and Zoning Administrator.  Duties include: developing and implementing department policies and procedures, zoning ordinances and the Comprehensive Plan, leading and developing staff, and advising the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Board of Supervisors.

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will bring several years of progressively responsible experience in local government planning; excellent leadership, teambuilding, organizational, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills; computer proficiency; a bachelor’s degree in a planning related field is required; master’s degree is preferred.  Possession of Professional Planner (American Institute of Certified Planners), Zoning Official, and Sediment Control Combined Program Administrator certifications are preferred.  Any equivalent combination of experience and education that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered when filling the position.

This is an FLSA exempt position and the Pay Band 23 salary is negotiable, depending upon qualifications.
