The County of Fluvanna is recruiting for the position of a Part-Time  Park Maintenance Worker

The County of Fluvanna is recruiting for the position of Park Maintenance Worker. This is a part-time position that performs a variety of under general supervision, the Park Maintenance Worker maintains the appearance and safety of County park landscaping, trails, disc golf course, and recreation features. Duties include grounds keeping, landscaping, and the construction and maintenance of public trails and a disc-golf course. This is a seasonal position that runs from March 1st through October 31st.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Operates equipment including mowers, tractors, trucks, and Gators; uses hand and power tools as trained.
  • Constructs & maintains public trails and disc golf course; removes fallen and damaged trees and limbs, remove invasive plants and litter, repairs erosion damage to trails edges, and tee-box borders, repairs, and mounts disc baskets for disc golf
  • Makes minor repairs to picnic tables, shelters, and other park amenities
  • Mows and maintains landscaping of the historical land surrounding Pleasant Grove House, Park & Museum
  • Maintains ball fields’ at Carrysbrook Sports Complex; mowing areas, weed eating, and drag ball fields weekly
  • Assists with set-up for special events and projects
  • Grounds maintenance methods, materials, and equipment
  • Parks & Recreation programs and upcoming events
  • Department safety guidelines
  • Performs related tasks as assigned
  • Handling basic hand power tools, modern lawn equipment, and safe chainsaw operation
  • Communicate effectively and understand and follow oral and written directions
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates
  • Work independently and take initiative to repair public amenities, keeping supervisor informed
  • Keep supervisor informed of plans, progress, and problems

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This is heavy work requiring exertion over 100 pounds of force occasionally, above 50 pounds of force frequently, and more than 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas using the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm’s length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is subject to outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.  The worker may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Must be 18 years of age
High school graduation or equivalent
Minimum of one year of experience with groundskeeping and landscaping
Prior experience working in public parks is preferred

SALARY: $13.80 to $15.87 Hourly rate is negotiable depending on qualifications
