Few Fluvanna Voters Eligible for June 20 Primary
Nineteen Fluvanna County voters are eligible to cast ballots in the upcoming June 20, 2023, Democratic primary.
This strange turn of events is a result of the redistricting process which took place after the 2021 census. Unlike the situation before redistricting, all of Fluvanna is now entirely within the Tenth Virginia State Senate district.
The line for Fluvanna’s representation in the General Assembly House of Delegates, however, is a different story. About a dozen addresses, in the Fluvanna portion of the Town of Scottsville, were drawn in the Fifty-Fifth Virginia House District, which also covers Charlottesville and Albemarle County, along with parts of Louisa and Nelson Counties. Every other Fluvanna household will be represented by the new Fifty-Sixth District. The Fifty-Fifth District is having a Democratic primary on June 20 this year; the Fifty-Sixth is not.
November 7, 2023, General Election will allow every Virginia voter to go to the polls, as all 100 Virginia House of Delegates and all 40 Virginia State Senate seats will be on the ballot. In Fluvanna, as in many other Virginia communities, there will be local candidates as well. All of the constitutional officers are up for election, including the Sheriff, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Clerk of the Circuit Court, along with the County Treasurer and Commissioner of Revenue. The Fork Union and Palmyra Board of Supervisor positions are on the ballot, as are the Palmyra and Fork Union School Board seats. There is also a special election in November to fill an unexpired term for the Rivanna District School Board position, and a special election in the Town of Scottsville to fill two vacant seats on the Town Council.
Early in-person voting for the June 20 Democratic Primary begins on Friday, May 5, 2023, at the Registrar’s Office, 265 Turkeysag Trail in Palmyra, and ends Saturday, June 17 at 5:00 p.m. Those eligible Fluvanna voters from the Town of Scottsville who wish to vote on Election Day, June 20, may do so at their regular polling place, Antioch Church on Antioch Road. The last day to register to vote in the primary is May 30, 2023. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot for the primary is June 9.
For information about registration, polling places, early and absentee voting, and other questions about voting, call the Registrar’s office between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday at 434-589-3593, or go to the website, www.fluvannacounty.org/registrar
