Redistricting Brings Changes for Fluvanna Voters
Redistricting Brings Changes for Fluvanna Voters
October 31, 2022
FLUVANNA, VA - Redistricting, which takes place after every U.S. Census, means changes in voting districts and polling places for many voters in the country. Fluvanna County is no exception. The redistricting process attempts to ensure that each voting precinct within a county contains an approximately equal number of voters, so that everyone’s vote carries equal weight.
Precinct lines in Fluvanna were changed over the spring and summer, so that many, but not all, county residents are in a different precinct than they were last year, and consequently will go to a different polling place than they did last election. In addition, one polling place has moved entirely, so that it is more central to its precinct’s new boundaries.
The polling place for the Palmyra precinct has moved from the Palmyra Fire Station. Palmyra precinct voters will now go to Beaver Dam Baptist Church, located at 1794 Richmond Road in Troy. It should be noted, by the way, that having a Palmyra address does not necessarily mean that a voter is in the Palmyra precinct.
Fluvanna’s other four voting sites are the same as in the past. Columbia precinct voters will go to the Kents Store Agricultural Recreation Center (A.R.C.) Building at 111 Kents Store Way in Kents Store. Those in the Fork Union precinct will go to the Fluvanna County Community Center on Election Day, at 5725 James Madison Highway in Fork Union. Voters in the Cunningham precinct will use Antioch Church, 4422 Antioch Road in Scottsville, and those in the Rivanna precinct will vote in the Maple Room of the Lake Monticello Fire House, 10 Slice Road in Palmyra.
For more information, voters can contact Fluvanna County General Registrar and Director of Elections Joyce Wells Pace by calling (434)589-3593 or they can visit www.elections.virginia.gov/casting-a-ballot to find their local polling place.
