Train Derailment – Bremo Bluff, Virginia

For Immediate Release

On January 7, 2025, at approximately 0453 hours, the Fluvanna County Emergency Communications Center was notified by CSX, that a coal train travelling along the south-eastern border of the county had experienced a derailment. Multiple loaded coal cars have been confirmed as having overturned. Resources from the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office, Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Department’s Palmyra and Fork Union Fire Companies, and Fluvanna County Emergency Services have responded to assess the situation and assist as necessary.

There have been no injuries reported and at this time no immediate environmental concerns have been found. Traffic is not affected and there is no ongoing risk to Fluvanna citizens and visitors. Currently, no cause for the derailment has been identified. Representatives from CSX are on-scene and evaluating recovery and cleanup plans.

There are no future releases scheduled related to this incident.
