Sheriff Hess considers it an honor and a privilege to serve the great citizens of Fluvanna County. Sheriff Hess has dedicated more than 30 years of his life to public service, 24 of those years in Law Enforcement and has enjoyed a diverse and rewarding career.
Captain Von Hill is a veteran of Law Enforcement, who offers more than 30 years of expertise in the field related to every segment of the criminal justice system. Captain Hill has proudly served as a sworn law enforcement officer in this public safety sector, especially for the last 21 years in Fluvanna County. In August 2014, a career development panel selected Captain Hill for the position of Chief of Administration of the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office, for which he carries the rank of Captain. He began working in law enforcement in 1992 as a Communications Officer and certified as a law enforcement officer in 1994 working as a Deputy Sheriff-Patrol for the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, later earning the rank of Corporal. He offers a diverse combination of knowledge, experience, and skills that ideally fit the requirements of the captain’s role in the Sheriff’s Office and/or any other law enforcement agency.
Captain Aaron Hurd has served the citizens of Fluvanna County as a law enforcement professional for more than twenty years. His service to the Commonwealth began while enforcing federal shipping regulations in and around the Port of Hampton Roads while in the United States Coast Guard Reserve. That style of service became his career during his initial appointment as a Virginia Game Warden and has continued to develop as a Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Deputy.
Director Michael R. Grandstaff began his career at the Sheriff’s Office in September of 2008 as a Communications Officer. He progressed through the ranks in the Communications Center serving as CTO and Communications Supervisor prior to being promoted to Director in 2016. He now oversees the Communications and Technology Division and the County Public Safety Radio System. Grandstaff is a founding member and current leader of the agencies Tactical Dispatch Team.
