19. Pay your taxes at the Treasurer's Office.

The Treasurer's Office is part of the Court Square complex. The building is shared with the Commissioner of the Revenue. Taxes are typically due on June 5 and December 5 of each year.

12. Enjoy the exhibits at the Old Stone Jail Museum.

Old Stone Jail Museum was built in 1828, designed by General John Hartwell Cocke and built by John G. Hughes. The early minutes of the County Court indicate that a “sufficient Gaol” was needed. In 1963 the “Gaol” was opened as the museum for the permanent collection of Fluvanna historical artifacts. 

45. Peruse Fluvanna History at Maggie’s House.

Maggie’s House is located in the center of Fluvanna’s county seat, Palmyra. It is next to the Old Stone Jail Museum and the the new Courthouse. Parking is available in the vicinity. Parking for persons with disabilities is available in the parking of the new Courthouse and in front of Maggie’s House.

27. Boat/float/fish the James with your own watercraft or with an outfitter.

James River is known as a “gorilla” breeding ground for smallmouth. Known to have some of the biggest smallies on the east coast.  Public river access points in Fluvanna Co. are found at Columbia and the Hardware Wildlife Management Area.

Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states in the United States including Fluvanna County.  Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward our vision by building strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with people and families in need of a decent and affordable home.

36. Experience both history and beauty at Bremo Slave Chapel.

Gorgeous Gothic Revival structure, constructed in 1835, currently used as an activity center for Grace Episcopal Church. The Chapel was originally located as part of the nearby Bremo Plantation. The building was designed by General John Hartwell Cocke. It is the state's only known slave chapel.
